HEY, MR. PRESIDENT

HEY, MR. PRESIDENT!

I don’t care whose bomb is bigger,

Get your hands away from the nuclear trigger.

When negotiations fail and all is lost,

There is no way to calculate the cost.

Somewhere in space mixed with cosmic dust,

Life continues to exist only if there’s love and trust.

But hot-headed men with toys of war

Still threaten us with missiles from afar.

Don’t they know that we all will lose,

No matter which weapons we eventually use?

Mr. President, try thinking but do not speak.

Your tweets are empty and very weak.

I don’t care whose toy is bigger,

Get your hands away from the nuclear trigger.

CHOICES

 WHICH CHOICE SHOULD I MAKE?

I’m not crazy even though you disagree.

I’m simply a man wanting justice, for people like me.

This world is full of lonely people ready to explode

They carry heavy burdens and they need to unload.

Just because I got angry when you killed the cat.

Life to me is precious. What do you think about that?

“Animals are just creatures”, you said once or twice.

Some should be burned alive, the others frozen in ice.

You called my mom a slut right in front of her face,

I love my mom. Your remark was way out of place.

My blood was boiling, your tongue had no control,

Yet you continued talking, words that were cruel and cold.

You laughed, “There’s no reason for her to live.”

We had both watched a bag lady pull children from a fire,

Without concern for her own life, she didn’t stop to enquire,

What color, social group, language they spoke,

They were children, worthy of rescue from the blazing pyre.

You laughed, “There’s no reason for her to live.”

You continued talking, words that were cruel and cold,

My blood was boiling, and I finally lost my control.

Am I crazy? People might have a reason to ask.

I’m almost sorry I chose you to be my very best friend,

And now I’m trying to decide whether I can forgive you.

Should I walk away, turn you in, or let our friendship end?

FRIENDS

I said, “I want to be friends.”
“Don’t you think I’m attractive?” you asked.
“This has nothing to do with that,” I replied.
“Are you rejecting my love?” you asked sadly.
This conversation was already going badly.
We had met two weeks before and shared poetry,
Hers was light and fluffy, lifting the soul.
Mine was darker with shades of gray, all details told.
I expected her opinion, constructive criticism at it’s best,
but I froze when she answered,
“When I read yours, I lost respect for you,” she said matter-of-fact.
“Shades of gray has no place in poetry or prose.
Your poems are disgusting when you have scenes like those.”

“Yours were still beautiful,” yet between the words I said
were my feelings trampled and left for dead.
if she had offered hope for better days
I would be more careful and change my ways.
but I felt condemned and hurt, no turning back.
I thought we were friends. This was a personal attack.
Friends forever, I would still try to do this.

JUST A FARCE

The emperor marched through the center of town,
All people were courteous, all eyes were down.
An archer, his long bow taut and ready,
Was set to strike, his aim was steady.
The emperor danced through the crowd,
Dignified, majestic, and very proud.
Many maidens turned red from head to toes,
No one dared question the emperor’s new clothes.
Finally one young lad, innocent or not,
Put question to what the town folk thought.
The men gasped and held their breath,
Surely the lad would meet his death.
The emperor heard what the young lad said,
And he almost screamed, “Off with his head!”
But murmurs of truth swept the day,
The tailors were apprehended and told to pray,
The punishment was clear, “Crime doesn’t pay.”
The tailors were stripped, without shirts or pants,
Buried to their necks, covered with honey and ants.
A farce that tested the emperor’s ego,
Almost ended badly, because politicians know,
Their pants should stay up, even on their own farm,
Because without restraints, they lose their charm.
Each farce exposed means an emperor loses face,
And the whole world sees another naked disgrace.
